Her Father's Daughter

Her Father’s Daughter

TH - To Brittany from Daddy
1-29-99

Smiles of magic,
Eyes that shine,
Air of innocence,
Hair so fine.

Hands so little,
Fragile fingers extend.
Yet they hold more hope
Than a thousand men.

Pride of a lion,
Drive of a horse,
Testing a father’s patience,

Seems nothing could be worse.
Underestimated young dame.
Talents taken for granted.
Free to take risk,

In Daddy’s hands she’s always landed.
Love so strong,
Infectious disease,
Fields of roses

And grasses she sees.
Attention is focused.
“It cannot be your feat”
“It cannot be done”

Your words you will eat!
So stubborn and gentle,
Fragile and strong…
The beautiful blend

Of music and song.
Betray not her family’s trust.
Everyone’s hopes she will not falter;
She must stumble on her own…

She’s her father’s daughter.
