Just an old Junkyard Dog. I have seen much, laughed plenty, and cried for my own and loved one's pain and joys. I have lots to say and have thought about a place to put it for years. I am sometimes witty, usually sarcastic, and nearly always positive. Please feel free to comment on anything! Criticism, how you felt, typos... I can take it. Our Love, The Storm
Tom Haupt
A picnic in a breeze,
Some crackers and some cheese,
A cup full of spirit
A spring day meant to please.
The air is cool and sweet,
The sunlight kisses skin,
The bond seems unfettered,
Invincible within.
The chill passes through,
The sun blocked by sudden cloud,
The breeze is now energized
By natural passion in shroud
The setting is tussled
Tossed aside by the gale
All that was pretty
Is now setting sail.
The drops begin falling
The sky beginning it’s tear
Need to find shelter,
Temptation to run to rear.
But forward you face
To find a true place safe
It is in the unknown
Where you find your embrace.
The storm has command
Over items unsettled
Things unrooted,
Things to be mettled.
The trees can be tested,
How deep their roots run.
But trees in tight clusters,
Provide shelter to everyone.
For nature know well
The strength of our bonds
From staving off storms,
Or enriching our songs.
The sky opens wide,
The new day is a foal,
The smell of the forest,
Is enriching our soul.
The meadow is greener,
The flowers stand strong,
Absorbing the prize,
For enjoying the bond.
The trees stand strong,
Seemingly unchanged
Providing its strength,
Unmoved, unstranged.
But, the trees are sustained,
Also, by the soil at the base,
The same as the flora,
The creatures, earth’s face.
Standing a bit taller,
Although seemingly, unseen,
The roots having grown stronger,
The leaves with new sheen.
It is the storm,
That is to blame,
For weathered with pride,
There is no shame.
You are my cluster,
My partner in crime.
I need you beside me,
While we do our time.
The storms are not tell tales
Of a love that has and end,
But the food for the future,
For our subjects to depend.
TH for Sandy, my love.

My thoughts for 2018:
Anything worth having has a price, a cost, something you have to give in exchange... A sacrifice. So many people are afraid to love for fear they will get hurt. Know this as a fact: the price for love IS pain. Your dog will die, run away, or get taken... But you love. Your kids will move away... Or worse. Your lover will eventually pass, or move on...something. Regardless... It is undeniable that the price to love is that you WILL hurt one day. Once you accept this, you can love without concern for the consequence. You will give freely for the wonderful experience it is, in spite of the momentary pain and take from it the memories and warmth. Embrace and accept the inevitable... And love without consequence... You will be more happy than hurt in the end.

Harvey Comes to Texas
Tears of Joy
Spirit of Desire
Missing the Storm
Missing the Storm
TH
4-23-97
I like to listen to the rain,
Wish I was a child again.
Empty stare beyond the window,
Not a worry, wish it were still.
Made me jump, the lightning dashing,
Count the seconds ‘till thunder crashing.
The rain still comes and gives a show,
But it’s not eh same you know.
I wish I could rejuvenate,
Regain the way I would contemplate.
Wish you had your childhood still?
The just look beyond your window sill!
Love Starts as an Infant
Love Starts as an Infant
TH

Love starts as an infant,
Innocent and pure.
A strong hope for a future,
Today’s job…just nurture.
The living example of
Saying “ignorance is bliss”
Lucky to be so blind,
Harsh realities… lucky to miss.
Struggling through lessons,
Dreaded terrible twos.
A padded time of hugs,
Kisses and “I love you’s”
Still latching and holding.
Afraid to let go.
Embracing with all might
To the love that you know.
Slight turn to the world.
“My God! It seems so huge!”
I will face it love,
If you come along too.
Bumps and scrapes,
Stumbles and falls…
Each one a lesson that
Next to the bond are so small.
Turning to the world,
Taking it on.
Now able to run.
No longer a fawn.
Reality stinging…
Burn on the face
Turning to love,
Ahhh! The sweet taste!
Freedom to conquer
The worlds beyond.
Would rather be with you.
Of your love I have grown fond.
The greatest lesson
To be learned is so great…
No need to look beyond,
Under your nose is your fate.
A love one matured,
Continues to grow.
Another lesson learned…
You do reap what you sow.
